Cherry Tree Lane is the result of a slow developing project with my mother-in-law. These dresses are a very traditional dress design. They are adorned with a mix of applique work and hand embroidery. We wanted to create dresses that combine classic design, vintage imagery, and nursery room charm, and are still comfortable and fun to wear.
This design came from the children's poem written by Eugene Field
"The Duel" by Eugene Field
The gingham dog and the calico cat
Side by side on the table sat;
'T was half-past twelve, and (what do you think!)
Nor one nor t' other had slept a wink!
The old Dutch clock and the Chinese plate
Appeared to know as sure as fate
There was going to be a terrible spat.
It has been a joy to work on these. Collaborating with my mother-in-law was a wonderful experience. She brought a strong idea of combining the traditional dress form with embroidered text that differed from machine monograming work. Her starting point created a wonderful pallet to create in, like an assignment from art school that fit so well with my own interests and joys. I have a stack of sketches waiting to be cleaned up and developed into finished work that is so deep that I'm not sure that I'll ever find enough time to get through them. Here are the designs that are ready so far:
The details:
They are an A-line cut with button-up back and puff sleeves, and are constructed from a poly-cotton blend so that remain wrinkle free. The applique work is fully sewn at the edge to prevent fraying, no shabby chic here. The hand embroidery work is carefully anchored and executed. The dresses are lined so those cute little princesses and super heroes won't show through.
These dresses are currently available in 2T, 3T, and 4T sizes. The dresses were manufactured in Saint Louis and then all the applique work and embroidery were added by me in my studio. More designs will be coming as well as more sizes.
