Katherine Cooke Designs
I have always enjoyed the quiet contemplation that mobiles can add to a space. They grab our attention and remind us that we can stop and still our pace to observe the space we are. Feel the tiny breaths of air currents and let our thoughts drift for a few moments. I have been working to create mobiles that engage a room for both the young and those who need more reminding about quieting our minds. These mobiles are primarily constructed from needle felted elements while keeping the structural components a minimals as possible.
15 felted Koi dance from brass rods. Each fish is about 2.5 inches in length
Five felted birds suspended from a bamboo hoop float amid felt leaves. Each bird is about 3.5 inches long
A trio of felted rabbits suspended from a brass triangle. Rabbits are about 2.5” from nose to tail.
Before kids, my art work was centered around designs inspired from gardens and folk tradition and Asian art. I have found some moments to sneak a little creativity in that focused on an older audience; I have been using my applique techniques to create pillows for the grown up spaces.
I keep my working drawings and sketched pinned up on the wall above my work space. They are simple line drawings, but they got me thinking that it was time to start creating work for the walls as well as for dresses, coats, and pillows. These items are making their way to my ETSY shop and if you are interested in a design not yet in the shop please email me.
Little heads and toes need covering up. I have chosen these patterns because they sew up beautifully but also function well. The crossover booties stay on well. The winter hats a warm and snug and comfortable. And honestly who can resist a girl in a bonnet.
These booties are hand embroidered and hand constructed in wool felt. Find them here.

My girls love to image and tell me tales layered with descriptive detail upon detail. They imagine worlds filled with vivid imagery and beauty and I love hearing them describe these musings. I decided that they needed clothes that would let them play about in such a world. The clothing I make is always lined and washable so that it is comfortable on young bodies and stands up to active imaginations.
This jacket was designed for my oldest. It lasted many, many winters through both children until it was retired and replaced with a butterfly design. It has since been made for many happy toddlers. Find it and my other coats and vest here.
I have translated many of my designs into metal as well as fabric. Here are a few representatives of work I have created in sliver.

My degree is in fact in sculpture. I love developing an idea from a sketch in my journal through the casting process or more immediately with smithing skills in forming the metal into right shape and design.
